1) Central Switch Management

Central Switch Management provides a convenient and efficient way to manage and configure VigorSwitches. Without the need to login to each switch individually, the CSM feature allows the user to view the configuration settings of each switch within a single interface in the DrayTek router. This simplifies configuration tasks such as creating VLANs to provide a number of virtual networks within an organisation reducing troubleshooting efforts.

Integrated Functions with Vigor Routers

Many network functions rely on routers and switches working together, so DrayTek designed integrated configuration pages for the Vigor2862 series, Vigor2926 series, Vigor2952 series, Vigor3220 series and Vigor3910 routers to interwork with VigorSwitches.

Centralised Hierarchy View

The status monitoring page of Vigor routers presents a hierarchical view of the VigorSwitches on the LAN to easily locate a network device in the network topology, check its IP address and find out which physical Ethernet port it is connected to.

Reboot PoE Devices Remotely

The router’s Web UI includes the option to shut down specific ports on network switches immediately or according to a schedule. For PoE switches, shutting down a port will also cut off the power supply, which means remote PoE devices such as wireless Access Points or IP cameras can be rebooted or shut down within the same interface.

Quick VLAN Configuration

VLAN configuration on VigorSwitches is simplified as it is integrated into the VLAN console of the attached Vigor router. The port connecting to the router is automatically set to a trunk port so you only need to define PVID when a port is a member of multiple VLANs.

2) TR-069 Central Management Systems (VigorACS 2 and VigorConnect)

Manage and configure VigorSwitches from a TR-069 based centralised management system.
VigorACS 2 allows new devices to be provisioned, scheduled maintenance such as firmware updates to be carried out according to a time schedule, VigorSwitches and APs can be monitored, and statistics viewed along with customised reporting.

VigorConnect –  Free Local Network Management Software for DrayTek Access Points and Switches

VigorConnect is a free TR-069 based management system which can manage up to 100 VigorSwitches and APs within a building on the same local network. Similarly to VigorACS 2, VigorConnect allows new devices to be provisioned, carry out maintenance such firmware upgrades based on a time schedule. VigorSwitches and APs can be monitored, and statistics viewed along with customised reporting.
Setting up VLANS is simplified through the graphical view in VigorConnect.

While maintaining the same VLAN setting in the VigorSwitch Web user interface, VigorConnect provides a graphical view to simplify setting up of VLANs.

3) VLANs (Multi-Workgroup Deployment)

Use VLANs to secure a network by creating logical workgroups. VLANs can span over multiple switches so workgroups can be located in different physical locations or floors within a building. For example, if the Sales Department is located on the 1st floor of a building, and if some sales personnel are located on a different floor they can still be configured as part of the Sales VLAN.

The IEEE 802.1q VLAN trunk feature means that just a single LAN cable connection is required between the router and the switch, and/or between switches, to be sufficient to create a number of VLANs for different departments.

4) Bandwidth Aggregation

Increase bandwidth between VigorSwitches by aggregating multiple switch ports to form load-sharing trunk groups. The switches can be cascaded in Daisy Chain or Star topology to provide high speed data links. The connections can use either copper Ethernet cables or Fibre cables.

5) Network Traffic Analysis

Network traffic can be monitored or analysed by utilising the Port Mirroring function in VigorSwitches. This is a diagnostic tool for forwarding ingress/egress traffic (RX/TX) to a switch monitor port for analysis by a network analyser or an administrator.

6) Prioritising of Traffic

DrayTek VigorSwitch’s Quality of Service (QoS) feature provides eight queues to classify traffic types according to 802.1p VLAN priority tag, DiffServ and/or DSCP to then give that traffic priority. For example, applications such as VoIP or Video Conferencing, both requiring real time data delivery, can be prioritised to ensure satisfactory operation.

7) Power over Ethernet (PoE) Switches

Use Ethernet LAN cabling to deliver both data and a stable power supply to PoE devices such as IP phones, IP cameras and wireless Access Points. Realistically, these devices are typically mounted where there is no AC wiring is available. In these situations, PoE eliminates the need for complicated AC wiring, therefore reducing installation costs.

8) IP Conflict Prevention

Improve network stability by removing sources of IP conflicts that can disrupt network communication. Any device using an IP address that conflicts with a protected host listed in the VigorSwitch database will be automatically blocked and the system administrator notified.

9) ONVIF Snapshot Alert

Locating Non-Responding IP Cameras Made Easy

Managing several IP cameras across different locations and customers are difficult enough without also having to keep on top of any cameras that stop functioning. To help with this, the VigorSwitch regularly pings ONVIF IP cameras and takes snapshots from them periodically. If one IP camera stops responding, an email alert is sent with the latest snapshot from the camera.

With PoE VigorSwitch models, the switch can also provide first aid by automatically power cycling the particular port to reboot the camera.
